18 February 2013, Osogbo – The Power Holdings Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in Osogbo, says it has not received any official directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to suspend the distribution of pre-paid metres free of charge.
Mr Timothy Adesanya, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the PHCN, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo on Friday, that the company had yet to get any directive from the commission to stop the free distribution of the metres to the public.
The commission had in June last year ordered all electricity distribution companies to install prepaid metres freely to all consumers within their territories within 18 months.
Barely 10 months later, the chairman of the commission, Dr Sam Amadi rescinded that directive and declared that electricity consumers should now pay for the prepaid metres.
“We only heard about the suspension on radio like everybody, but the directive has not officially been given to us to that effect.
