22 April 2015, Lagos – The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has asked the government to create an enabling environment and opportunities for gainful employment to encourage Nigerians to remain in the country.
In reaction to the xenophobic attacks on migrants in South Africa, the union said checks should be put in place to reduce the human and capital flight.
A statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, PENGASSAN, Emmanuel Ojugbana, noted that the optimisation of oil and gas sector had the potential for limitless job-creation opportunities that could make many Nigerians seeking greener pasture in other countries to be engaged within the country.
It condemned the xenophobic attacks on migrants in South Africa, and called on the South African government to urgently end the attacks on foreigners.
The oil workers’ union also urged the South African government to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime that had led to the death of many foreigners in South Africa were brought to book.
