09 November 2012, Sweetcrude, ALGIERS – SPAIN’s Repsol has reported a gas discovery in Algeria

Repsol said it made the discovery at the Tihalatine South-1 well in the Sud-Est Illize block where the Spanish outfit is the operator with a 25.73% stake.

The discovery was made at a depth of 1,073 metres and has flowed 105,000 metres per day of gas.

Enel holds 13.48% of the block while GDF Suez has 9.8% and local state-owned player Sonatrach is on 51%.

Enel referred to the discovery on Friday, saying “additional evaluation works will be carried out by the joint venture to assess any further potential of the well”.

The Italian continued: “Tihalatine South-1 was the first well from the exploration campaign launched by the joint venture in July 2011, which involves the drilling of four additional wells.”
