Rivers State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Mr. Edward Festus Abibo, lamented to SweetCrudeReports in Port Harcourt over the non-harmonisation of the pension from 2003 till date, saying this is valued at over N3 billion.

Mr. Abibo, who accused Ameachi of being insensitive to the plight of pensioners in the state, urged an urgent payment of the pension allowance and increase, in order to alleviate the sufferings of the senior citizens.
According to him, “we are calling on the Rivers State Government to pay all our monthly allowance before the end of this month.
“Pensioners are facing very hard time, no money to pay our medical fees and even to eat to survive. We don’t know why we should be treated in this manner.”
Festus Abibo who called on the Nigerian Labour Congress to intervene in the matter, wondered what the pensioners in the state have done to the state government to warrant their recent predicament.
He regretted that several protests to the state government have yielded no positive result.
