Port Harcourt — The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced a scheduled shutdown of two key 30MVA power transformers at its Sagamu Transmission Substation, a move that will leave parts of Ogun State without electricity supply on Thursday and Friday.

According to the company, its technical team will carry out the annual preventive maintenance on Transformer T1 (30MVA 132/33kV) on Thursday, September 4th, and Transformer T2 (30MVA 132/33kV) on Friday, September 5th, 2025.

“Power supply through the transformers to Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, will be interrupted for six hours on both days from 10am to 4pm to create a safe working environment for the crew,” said Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs.

The outages will affect Sagamu 33kV, Reel Infrastructure, and Babcock feeders on Thursday, while Ceplass, NNPC/OGIJO, and Metalfrique feeders will be impacted on Friday.

TCN explained that the exercise is part of its routine maintenance programme aimed at ensuring reliability and minimising unexpected breakdowns in the transmission network.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this would cause electricity consumers living within the specified areas,” Mbah said, assuring that “bulk power supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance is completed.”

The planned outages come amid rising industrial concerns over frequent disruptions in electricity supply, particularly in Ogun State, where major manufacturers, industrial estates, and institutions rely on stable power for operations.

The maintenance underscores the fragile state of Nigeria’s transmission grid, where preventive shutdowns, although necessary, often highlight limited redundancies across substations.

For households and businesses in Sagamu, the two-day exercise will mean adjusting operations and leaning on alternative energy sources to cushion the shortfall.
