10 July 2012, Sweetcrude, WARRI – TENSION is rising in Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, following allegation that some youth leaders and politicians have hijacked funds meant for the development of the community.

The traditional ruler of Ogbe-Ijoh, Pere Amakosu Oduwor III, regretted that some persons had diverted funds from Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, for their self-centered purpose.

He called on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to look into the allegation and save the community from another round of crisis, adding that government should probe all contracts awarded for the development of the community.

He said: “I implore Governor Uduaghan and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFFC, to investigate the allegation to save my community from plunging into another round of crisis.

“Can you imagine, as the traditional ruler, I don’t know what is going on in DESOPADEC as regard contracts awarded for the development of my kingdom? I had written several times to the Commission but no response. I only hear that they had awarded one contract or the other in my community.”

He decried the mode of appointment into the Ogbe-Ijaw Isaba Diebri Community Development Committee, CDC, of Warri South West council without his input in the nomination of members, noting that the body as currently constituted was illegal.
