23 October 2012, Sweetcrude, LAGOS – FRENCH oil giant, Total, said Tuesday it declared force majeure 10 days ago at its Nigerian natural gas field due to flooding, which forced the company to halt production there, according to Dow Jones Newswires
Total is the operator of the onshore OML 58 field and owns a 40% interest in it.
The force majeure concerns supplies to the Nigerian Liquefied Natural, NLNG, plant in Bonny, Rivers state as well as Total’s services suppliers.
The loss in output from OML 58 is partially compensated by additional production of Total’s other fields in the country, which are offshore, a spokesman for the company said, according to Dow Jones Newswire.
The company declined to say when production would restart and the force majeure would be lifted.
