Port Harcourt — As part of its corporate social responsibility, Transafam Power Limited has sensitized its Okoloma-Afam host community in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, on the importance and benefits of environmental conservation and sustainability.

Recall that Transafam Power Limited, a subsidiary of Transcorp Group, in 2020 acquired Afam Genco comprising Afam Three Fast Power and Afam Power Plc, with a total installed base of 966MW capacity; and officially took over the operational running of the plants in March 2021.

Chief Executive Officer of Transafam Power Limited, Vincent Ozoude, at the company’s annual environmental transformation drive, said the purpose was to drive the use of proper waste disposal within the Okoloma Afam community, educate members of the host community on the benefits of proper waste management and promote good health by avoiding diseases caused by unhealthy environments.

Ozoude explained that as part of Transcorp Group’s vision to improve and transform the lives of Nigerians, the company and its subsidiaries were sensitive to the increasing importance of sustainability.

“Sustainability has remained systemically ingrained in how business is conducted, evidenced by the commitment to creating positive environmental, social, and economic impact across all businesses and communities.

“The purpose of the annual environmental transformation initiative is to drive the use of proper waste disposal within the Okoloma Afam community, educate members of the host community on the benefits of proper waste management and promote good health by avoiding diseases caused by unhealthy environments.

“Today we are marking Transafam environmental transformation initiative day. What we are trying to achieve is to sensitize our host community on the importance of a clean environment and how it is a major benefit to themselves and their families.

“We are going about it by rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty in sweeping, cleaning, and waste segregation. We are using this opportunity as part of our CSR and keying into the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.”

In addition to the clean-up efforts, employees of Transafam Power also educated members of the host community on the importance and benefits of environmental conservation and sustainability.

The company hopes that this annual initiative will not only make a tangible difference in the community but also inspire others to act and positively impact the environment.

“We are extremely proud of the efforts of our employees during this sanitation drive. Not only did they give their time and energy to positively impact our community, but they also demonstrated our company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability. It was a pleasure to see everyone come together for such a worthy cause,” added Ozoude.

He applauded employees for the turnout, participation, hard work and dedication during the event, as well as the host community for
welcoming the event and actively participating.

Highlight of the event was the coming together of employees of Transafam Power Limited, joined by volunteer members of the host community Okoloma, Afam come together to clean up and beautify the host community.
