18 December 2011, Sweetcrude, Luanda – Transocean’s newly built jackup rig, Honor, has been contracted by Chevron to work for it in Angola on a three-year contract.
The drilling company said the high-spec jackup, the first in a series of three under construction, can work in up to 400 feet of water and penetrate to a total depth of 30,000 feet.
According to Transocean, work is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2012 at a day rate of $149,000.
The rig’s name was decided by an employee contest, with the final choice intended to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in 2010 on the Deepwater Horizon, according to a company newsletter.
