27 August, 2011, Sweetcrude, Yenagoa – Against the backdrop of Friday’s bombing of the United Nations’ building in Abuja, Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State has asked Nigerians to place the national interest above every other consideration, and join hands with the Federal Government to deal with the creeping terrorism.
Sylva who condemned the bombing described it as an unwarranted destruction of life and property. “It is a sad thing that all Nigerians must be concerned about. We must rise up as one to condemn this senseless act,” Sylva said in London where he is attending the 2011 Isaac Boro Day event.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Doifie Ola, the governor noted: “This attack does not speak to any of the myriad problems that face us. Whether as a nation or group, this bombing is simply an unprovoked destruction of life and property at a time the country needs all hands on deck to fulfill its huge promise, which the whole world has been expecting to see.
“Democracy offers us limitless avenues for peaceful resolution of our grouses. And President Goodluck Jonathan has been committed to this path of seeking political solution to conflicts since assumption of office. Those behind this monstrous destruction should have availed themselves of the numerous democratic avenues for redressing perceived wrong.”
He commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the attack. “They were noble world citizens, members of an innocent community of Nigerians and foreigners on a mission to deliver solutions to various areas of need in the country in our collective effort to better the common humanity that we share,” he said. “I commiserate with their families and pray God to give them the strength to bear the loss.”
