21 January 2012, Sweetcrude, Houston – US construction company, Bechtel, has won a a front-end engineering and design, FEED, contract for Mozambique’s first LNG terminal, the company said Friday.
The initial phase of the plant in the Cabo Delgado province will have a capacity for 5 million metric tonnes per year, with future plans to produce 50 million metric tonnes per year.
The plant is planned for a 2018 startup.
“We are excited by the prospect of working with Anadarko and its partners to develop a world-class facility that will bring jobs and economic development to Mozambique,” said Jack Futcher, president of the company’s oil, gas and chemicals unit.
Bechtel is currently at work on four LNG complexes in Australia and one in the US. It has supplied 28 LNG trains in nine countries.
