Brent oil prices12 March 2014, Sweetcrude, Lagos – Experts will gather in Lagos in June to discuss oil theft, offshore infrastructure attack, piracy prevention and threat posed by expanding terrorism at the inaugural West Africa Oil and Gas Security Summit in Lagos.

The event holds on June 18 and 19 and is being organised by the International Research Networks, IRN.

According to the organisers, the event became necessary as Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer, is beset with security incidents that threaten the stability of the oil industry and communities in its vicinity.

IRN said “the meeting will be a discrete platform where delegates can share intelligence with other senior level experts in the oil and gas industry and relevant governmental bodies on how to effectively co-operate with local communities, deflect bribery demands, improve information sharing between neighbouring states and secure ports and offshore assets”.

The meeting will also focus on developing defence plans for vessels transiting through high risk areas, selecting the most advanced security systems and preventing pipeline sabotage.

It will also feature high-profile security case studies, panel discussions and presentations concentrated on the threat posed by expanding terrorism and extremism; oil theft; offshore infrastructure attack, and piracy prevention, the organisers added.

Attendees would also benefit from networking opportunities, including the private gala dinner and brandy and cigar networking, to allow them to forge valuable business relationships in a relaxed and informal fashion.
