Unable to hold its first meeting for the year last January, the next meeting of the CBN committee in charge of monetary policy was supposed to hold on either March 19 or 20.
“We are therefore giving the federal government till Monday to refute or correct its statement on the sack of Gen Paul Boroh by using the appropriate channel,” it stated.
“The Fund which was set up to bring succor to the working class has been looted over the years that it has not been able to fulfill the reason for its establishment. The current probe is, therefore, a welcome one and we hope that after the probe, NSITF, will be put in proper shape to deliver on its mandate.”
The impasse has rendered it impossible for the CBN to form a quorum of the MPC whose past members had retired at various times last year, and compelled the central bank to postpone the first meeting of the committee last January.
The deadline to Nigeria to separate its National Financial Intelligence Unit from the EFCC lapsed on Sunday, without Nigeria signing a law that would have done so. The likely outcome of the meeting will be Nigeria’s expulsion from the group.
