    Gov Orji proposes death sentence for pipeline vandalism

    11 July 2012, Sweetcrude, UMUAHIA—GOVERNOR Theodore Orji of Abia State has sent a bill to the State House of Assembly, proposing death penalty for pipelines vandalism as a way of arresting the rate of the activity in the state.

    This came as Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC, Mr. Andrew Yakubu said the corporation lost N7.6 billion to vandals between 2007 and now.

    Governor Orji who disclosed this Tuesday, while addressing traditional rulers and some leaders from Ukwa West, the state’s main oil community and Osisisioma-Ngwa, the NNPC depot is located, said information reaching him was that the bill had passed first reading.
