Port Harcourt — Residents and businesses in parts of Port Harcourt are experiencing electricity outages following a fault at the Alaoji Transmission Station, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, has announced.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, PHED attributed the supply disruption to a fault involving the down dropper at the transmission facility, assuring customers that efforts were underway to restore normal electricity supply.

The development has affected several areas within the Rivers State capital, with customers reporting shortages in power supply.

PHED expressed regret over the situation and appealed for patience from affected consumers while repair works continue.

“We wish to inform you that the shortage of supply being experienced in some parts of Port Harcourt is as a result of a fault with the down dropper at Alaoji Transmission Station,” the company said.

The distribution company noted that the outage was linked to transmission infrastructure, indicating that relevant technical teams were already working to rectify the fault.

“We deeply apologize for all inconveniences and assure you that normal supply will be restored as soon as work is completed by the relevant team,” PHED stated.

The company, however, did not specify the number of customers affected or provide a timeline for the restoration of supply.

The incident highlights the continued vulnerability of electricity distribution to transmission network faults, which often result in supply disruptions across key commercial and residential areas.

Businesses that depend heavily on grid electricity are expected to rely on alternative power sources pending restoration, potentially increasing operating costs amid already challenging economic conditions.

PHED thanked customers for their understanding and cooperation during the period of the disruption.

“Thank you for your patience and kind understanding,” the management of the company added.
