    Esther Oritse

Lagos — The British and Nigerian Navies have concluded plans to participate at the Lagos International Maritime, LIM Week 2024, as security in the Gulf of Guinea, GoG, and insurance of deep offshore assets take center stage.

In a statement, convener of the conference, Mrs. Oritsematosan Edodo, said that offshore drilling and Seabed mining are part of the activities of the blue economy which, according to her, must be harnessed to grow the nation’s economy.

Edodo also said this is the first time the issue of seabed drilling will be discussed at the meeting, noting that Marine and Blue Economy cannot be complete without activities in the offshore sub-sector of the oil and gas industry.

She said: “We shall be dealing with this subject for the first time at Lagos Maritime Week and Engr. Felix Ogbe, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, will be leading the charge on Nigerian content in the deep offshore.

The panelists include Dr Mobereola, Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, who will share on the role of the flag state in safety of maritime assets in deep offshore, while Enitan Solarin of Yao Insurance Brokers will throw more light on insuring maritime assets in deep offshore, as Stanbic IBTC bank will contemplate financing maritime assets in deep offshore.
