Port Harcourt — Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, says it has reduced routine gas flaring in its operations by more than 97% over the past decade, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action.

Olusoga Oduselu, General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, recently said the milestone reflects Chevron’s long-standing investments in gas gathering and processing infrastructure.

“Through investments in gathering and processing of associated gas, routine flaring has been reduced by over 97% in the past 10 years in CNL’s operations,” Oduselu revealed.

He explained that the reduction is part of Chevron’s broader strategy to cut carbon emissions and support Nigeria’s climate objectives, while maximising the value of associated gas.

Chevron noted that the captured gas is channelled into productive use, including power generation and industrial applications, instead of being wasted through flaring.

According to the company, further reductions remain a key target as part of its global ambition for “ever-cleaner energy.”

Oduselu said Chevron remains committed to contributing to a more sustainable energy future in Nigeria and globally.

“Chevron is one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies. We believe affordable, reliable and ever-cleaner energy is essential to achieving a more prosperous and sustainable world,” he said.
