Lagos — As the bilateral relationship between China and Nigeria continue to blossom, volume of trade between both countries reached a total of $22.6billion in 2023, making China Nigeria’s biggest trading partner.

Disclosing this in Lagos at the arrival ceremony of the first Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, powered vessel at the Lekki Deep Seaport, the Chinese Consul General, Ms. Yan Yuqing said that Nigeria is currently the third largest African trading partner to China.

Yuqing also said that export from Nigeria to China went up nearly 50 percent noting that remarkable achievements have also been recorded in terms of investments as Nigeria remains China’s investment destination.

She said: “Nigeria is an outstanding pilot country for the belt and road initiative, making the community with a shared future for China-Nigeria more stable and robust.

“In recent years, the cooperation between China and Nigeria in the fields of airports, port, railway, road, communication network and other infrastructure has made great achievements.

“Projects such as the Blue and Red line Light Rail, the Lagos-Ibadan Railway and the international airports gives us a glimpse of Lagos accelerating into a global attractive supper city.

“I believe that as long as the two sides share common ideas and actively embrace the diversity of the world and economic globalization, guided by the strategic partnership between China and Nigeria, a closer community with a shared future will be built.

“We look forward to the economic take-off of Nigeria and anticipate mutually beneficial development and enduring friendship between these two countries.

“According to the latest data from the China Customs, the bilateral trade volume between China and Nigeria reached $22.6billion in 2023. China maintains its position as the top global trading partner for Nigeria and Nigeria stands as the third largest partner for China in Africa.
