10 November 2011, Sweetcrude, Warri—Traditional rulers and stakeholders in oil-producing communities of Delta State are to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja tomorrow on the problems confronting the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, near Warri, Delta State.
At a meeting of Oil Mineral Producing Communities (OMPSTAFOR), Delta State, Tuesday, stakeholders expressed displeasure at the state of affairs in the university which could not graduate its students because of non-accreditation of its courses, lack of infrastructure, inadequate teachers and internal crisis.
Former national secretary of Traditional Rulers of Oil Minerals Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON) and national coordinator of TROMPCON, Prince Maikpobi Okareme, Ovie of Ughelli, Ovie of Emede, HRM Johnson Egbo Ewhun, Ovie of Uzere, HRM Udogiri, Odio-Ologbo of Oleh, HRM Ovrawhah Omogha I, Agadagba of Egbema, HRM Bini Pere III, Owhorode of Olomu, Ovie R. Ogoni Oghoro and Toruboboul Ebenewei of Ogulagha, HRM Cpt. Joseph Timiyan, are in the delegation that would be meeting with the president.
Others are Pere of Kabowei kingdom, HRM Major L. Erebulu (rtd), Itsekiri leader, Chief J. Popo, Bishop Diamond Emuobor, Mr. Oghenejakpo, Prince Monday Whiskey and Chief Patrick Ebimami.
They are expected to tell the President to appoint a former university Vice Chancellor from Niger Delta region as chairman of the Governing Council of FUPRE.
They are also expected to urge Jonathan to direct the Ministry of Niger Delta and Petroleum Development Trust Fund to execute infrastructural projects in the institution, among other suggestions to move the institution forward
