power-grid16 September 2013, Nairobi – Kenya is among African countries set to benefit from a partnership between two multinationals aimed at boosting the continent’s power supply. The two conglomerates have announced plans to help African countries expand their eelectricity output and network interconnections to create modern and stable power grids.

According to the African Development Bank, Africa’s economy is growing faster than any other continent. This tremendous economic and population growth calls for a greater need for reliable, safe and efficient electrical infrastructure.

In Kenya the government wants to add 5,000MW into the national grid within the next 48 months as part of its Vision 2030 objective aimed at propelling the country into a middle income economy.

“Global grid modernisation investments will grow by 10 per cent over the next five years, this is a growth trend we are prepared to support and have begun to engage customers in faster growing regions like Africa,” Robert Turko of GE said.
