Port Harcourt — Ibom Power Company has resumed electricity generation following the restoration of gas supply to its plant, boosting output to 81 megawatts.
The company disclosed the development in a post on X, stating that gas was restored to the facility on Monday evening, enabling immediate resumption of operations.
“Gas supply was restored to our plant yesterday evening, and we are currently generating 81 megawatts,” the company said.
Ibom Power added that generation would be sustained subject to continued availability of gas, underscoring the persistent linkage between gas supply stability and power output in Nigeria’s electricity value chain.
“We will continue to generate power for as long as gas supply remains available,” it stated.
The development highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in gas-to-power infrastructure, where supply disruptions frequently constrain generation capacity across thermal plants.
Ibom Power, a key generation asset serving Akwa Ibom State and the national grid, has faced periodic output fluctuations tied to upstream gas supply challenges.
SweetCrude Reports notes that the restoration of supply and ramp-up to 81MW could provide temporary relief to consumers, even as broader structural issues around gas availability, grid stability and vandalism continue to affect performance across the power sector.
