Lagos –– The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, NOSDRA, has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable practices in the oil and gas sector through its active participation at the 14th Annual International Summit and Fellows General Assembly of the College of Oil and Gas Exploration Technology, COGET, held at the Auditorium of Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.

In recognition of NOSDRA’s critical regulatory role in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, as well as the exemplary leadership and industry-wide recognition of its Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, the DG/CE was invited as a special guest speaker at the event. The Director-General/Chief Executive was ably represented at the summit by Mr. Mohammed Suleman Gumsuri of the Oil Field Assessment Department.

The high-profile summit, which also featured the induction and official oath-taking award ceremony for graduating fellows of the College, brought together industry experts, professionals, academics and stakeholders across various oil and gas related disciplines to deliberate on emerging issues, innovations and best practices within the sector.

As part of the summit proceedings, NOSDRA delivered a technical presentation on the theme “Effects of Environmental Degradation in the Sub-Saharan Region.” The presentation highlighted the environmental and socio-economic impacts of oil pollution and other forms of degradation across the Sub-Saharan region, while emphasizing the need for stronger regulatory frameworks, collaborative stakeholder engagement and sustainable remediation strategies.

Beyond technical sessions and knowledge exchange, the summit marked the formal induction and oath-taking of newly admitted fellows of the College, celebrating their professional accomplishments and commitment to ethical practice within the oil and gas industry.

The College of Oil and Gas Exploration Technology expressed its appreciation to the Director-General/Chief Executive and the entire NOSDRA management for honoring its invitation and for contributing meaningfully to the success of the summit through insightful participation and technical input, which further enriched discussions at the event.
