    Occupy Kano: Protesters file N500m suit against Jonathan

    06 January 2012, Sweetcrude, KANO – Right Without Violence, the non-governmental organisation whose members were brutally dispersed from the Kano city centre Thursday, have filed a suit against President Jonathan and others demanding for N500m compensation for the action.

    Also joined in the multi million naira suit Friday are Kano state Government and Inspector General of Police.

    The suit is also seeking ano experte motion restraining the Federal Government, Kano state Government, Inspector General of Police and their agents from obstructing them the right to lawful assembly.

    Briefing reporters shortly after the court session, National President of Right Against Violence, Ahmad Suleiman Garun’Ali explained that the heavy handedness metted out to his members at the Kano city square contradicts local and international laws which Nigeria is a signatory.

    The constitutional Lawyer stated that the Group has the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, stressing that the violent assault on his member was ‘calous and inhuman’

    Ahmad Suleiman Garun’Ali recalled that the police ran amock on his members during a peaceful occupation of the Kano city centre that left dozens injured.

    He revealed that a member was feared dead during the violent break up of the peaceful assembly, adding that the Group would revealed the identity of victim in due course.
