01 October 2012, Sweetcrude, Umuahia – An Abia State government spokesman has disclosed that 20 people have been burnt to death in a remote village in the State, in their attempt to steal from a broken gasoline pipeline, apparently ruptured by them.

The government spokesman, Mr. Ugochukwu Emezue, said this that the incident took place on September 23, but that the information could not reach government until today.

Pipeline breakages in the oil-rich Niger-Delta by militants and vandals have been a recurrent dismal, over the years as the hoodlums always try to rip open, Petrol and Gas pipelines and on a good number of occasions, this has resulted to fire outbreaks, leaving varying degrees of burns on the victims and also claiming lives.
