02 July 2012, Sweetcrude, PORT HARCOURT – The South-south youth leaders’ forum have described recent call for the sack of the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs Diezani Allison Madueke by some members in the House of Representatives as a misplaced move.
In a statement issued yesterday in Port Harcourt and signed by Chairman of the group, Barr, Amachree Odiedim the group said the House had lost the confidence it enjoyed among Nigerians because of the dramatic development around the oil subsidy probe.
The group said the House should concern itself more with how to win back the confidence and trust of Nigerians than seeking the removal of the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs Madueke.
Continuing the statement wondered how the House of Representative could claim to be fighting corruption with the degree of scandal that had come from it in the last two months. “We strongly believe that this should be a period of reflection for members of the House of Representatives giving the embarrassment they have caused Nigerians in the past and especially in recent times as the House is now void of all forms of integrity.”
It must be put on record, that every right thinking Nigerian now see the lower chamber as a House of Corruption .They should work hard to change this growing perception”.
The group further hailed the recent appointments in the NNPC, describing the action of President Goodluck Jonathan as a step in the right direction.
“Mr. Zakari Mohamed, and others must however know that, President Goodluck Jonathan’s restructuring of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC) is a well thought self inspired move to necessitate the much needed improvement in the Oil and Gas sector in the best interest of the country and not the implementation of some “Bribe motivated subsidy probe report”
“If there is any where in this country that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) should constantly visit, it is the National Assembly, with special focus on the House of Representatives, as it has proved to be the most morally debased entity.”
