    UN Kenya organises briefing on World Urban Forum

    24 July 2012, Sweetcrude, African Press Organization (APO), NAIROBI, Kenya – UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Habitat Dr Joan Clos has invited Nairobi based journalists to a press briefing on the World Urban Forum 6.

    The briefing is to take place on Thursday 26 July between 1200 noon and 1300 hours at the Press Centre, UN Compound, Gigiri, Nairobi.

    Dr Joan Clos, will introduce the main concepts of the World Urban Forum and highlight the key speakers and events.

    Background
    From 1 to 6 September, the city of Naples, Italy will host the 6th Session of the World Urban Forum. Convened by UN-Habitat, the United Nations Programme for Human Settlements, the World Urban Forum is world’s premier conference on urban issues and the theme of this year’s meeting is The Urban Future.

    Highlights at WUF6 include
    • The opening ceremony on 3 September at Naples’ Mostra d’Oltremare by the President of Italy, HE George Napolitano and UN-Under-Secretary-General and UN-Habitat Executive Director, Dr Joan Clos;

    • On Wednesday 5 September, UN-Habitat will be revealing its State of the World’s Cities 2012/13: Urban Prosperity. investigating the challenges facing our rapidly urbanising population and introducing the concept of an index of prosperity;

    • For the first time, the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour awards will also be presented at the Forum. The Scroll is currently the most prestigious recognition of work in housing and human settlement provision with winners receiving the award at the WUF closing ceremony on 6 September
