12 May 2012, Sweetcrude, MAPUTO – Nigerian exploration company, South Atlantic Petroleum Ltd (Sapetro) has completed collection of 2D seismic data in two blocks in the Mozambique Channel, according to a statement from the company.
With the development, Martin Trachsel, Chairman of Sapetro, said the company would within a year have enough data to commence 3D seismic and to drill test wells.
The two blocks where the survey were conducted are Juan de Nova and Belo Profond, the latter located next to the blocks in the Rovuma basin where U.S Anadarko Petroleum and Italy’s Eni discovered large natural gas reserves. It has an area of 52,990 square kilometres.
The Belo Profond block is located in Madagascan territorial waters and covers an area of 13,770 square kilometres.
The two blocks are located in areas that are between 1,800 and 3,200 metres deep and the seismic data that has been collected so far shows the existence of geological formations that are likely to contain hydrocarbons.
