UNIT-GAS-SKID30 October 2013, Dar es Salaam – The Tanzania government has urged Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) to set up strategies that would enable the institution invest in in the gas exploration companies in the country.

Industry and Trade Minister Dr Abdallah Kigoda made the call in Dar es Salaam on Monday when officiating at TCCIA Investment Company 25th anniversary celebrations.

“I call upon you (TCCIA) to bring together your members’ income in order to acquire enough funds to own shares in the large firms involved in gas and coal exploration.

“This is the only way that will enable the majority of Tanzanians own a big stake in the country’s wealth,” he said. Dr Kigoda asked TCCIA to create awareness that will help Tanzanians realize the economic opportunities available in the country so that they can invest.

“Tanzanians should recognize themselves, realize and use the opportunities available to own the country’s economy instead of blaming foreign investors who have big contributions in development of the nation,” he noted.

He also expressed the need for the Investment Company to come up with creativities that will help supplement the government’s efforts in economic growth.
